Our Projects & Initiatives

What we do is loosely organized into four categories or "initiatives":

1. Community Building

2. Parent/School Partnership
3. The Playground Project
4. Family Literacy

If you don't hear back from someone, please contact any other person listed here for more info. We are all busy parents and sometimes are not able to respond to emails immediately. Thank you!

Community Building

We organize family fun events and participate in community sponsored projects. This is one of our favorites things to do! We develop community calendars and other types of publicity to keep parents informed of town meetings, events and children's programming.

Parent/ School Partnership

These activities help parents support our children's education. This includes support at home, parent engagement in the schools, and advocacy involvement in the community/ state/ national levels. This is a collaborative effort among WPN, School Readiness Council, Windham Discovery Committee and the Windham Public Schools.

  • First Day - contact your child's school

  • One on One Listening Campaign - contact Becky Cronin

  • Padres in Accion - contact Pat Calvo

  • Parents Empowering Parents - contact Pat Calvo

The Playground Project

We have accomplished our original goal of building a universally accessible playground in Downtown Willimantic. The project is now focused on monitoring and enhancing Memorial Park Playground. There are preliminary plans for a Phase II component. Youth programming at the playground is an addtional goal.

Family Literacy Focus Group

These activities promote reading for the whole family. Our activities help parents support their children's language and literacy development from birth throughout the school years. We encourage positive interactions and learning together, because children's literacy is improved when families read together.
